What is the MORE Act 2021?
Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement Act 2021
On May 28th, 2021, the Congressional Cannabis Caucus and House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler have introduced the MORE Act (Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement Act) of 2021. If passed, the MORE Act 2021 would enact a historic shift in federal policy towards cannabis.
The MORE Act of 2019 was blocked by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell under the Trump administration.
Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement Act 2021 - MORE Act
To decriminalize and de-schedule cannabis
To provide for reinvestment in certain persons adversely impacted by the War on Drugs
To provide for expungement of certain cannabis offenses, and for other purposes
Remove cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act
Decriminalizing marijuana on the federal level
End the federal prohibition on marijuana
What Else Does the MORE Act 2021 Do IF It Becomes Law?
The MORE Act 2021 would not only end federal prohibition of cannabis but also works to address social justice and disparity issues born out of America's War on Drugs.
Addresses the racial inequities of the War on Drugs,
Federal courts to expunge prior convictions
Allows prior offenders to request expungement
Requires courts, on motion, to conduct re-sentencing hearings for those still under supervision
